This award recognises outstanding innovation demonstrated in any facet of the entrant’s business.

Dunedin-based Blis Technologies develops and manufactures innovative probiotic solutions. Founded on the research of Professor John Tagg (University of Otago) the company was formed in 2000 to develop probiotic based solutions for human health applications.

Blis launched its BLIS Q24^TM Live Probiotic Hydration Serum, a unique live probiotic serum. The judges noted Blis Technologies’ courage in entering the skincare market with a product containing a probiotic given the significant microbiology-challenge this presented. They were impressed with how the adaptability in Blis’s innovation was led by very complex science, and robust and disciplined processes. The judging panel said: “Blis’s challenge and solution were well articulated with success across a range of parameters including verification by independent research.”

Blis Technologies Wins Two Awards in 2016 Deloitte Fast 50

In September 2016, Blis Technologies received two Otago Southland awards in the Deloitte Fast 50 at an event in Dunedin. Fast 50 takes place in 32 countries around the world, and the Deloitte Fast 50 ranks and celebrates fast growing companies. Blis won the awards for Fastest Growing Exporter and Fastest Growing Mature Business and was confirmed as one of the national Fast 50 companies.

CEO Brian Watson said the awards were due to a lot of hard work from a lot of people. “We have been focusing on improving systems, concentrating effort in specific offshore markets and developing a solid strategy especially related to our finished goods. It takes time and teamwork and these awards help remind us that the work we are doing creates results.”
